Year 1

We’re so excited to welcome you and your child to Year 1, a year full of discovery, growth, and fun! This is a special time as children make the important transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception) into Key Stage 1. In Year 1, we build on the strong foundations already laid, helping children to become more confident, independent learners.

Throughout the year, your child will explore a wide range of subjects, including phonics, reading, writing, maths, science, and topic-based learning that links history, geography, and art. We place a strong emphasis on developing early literacy and numeracy skills, while also encouraging creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning.

Our days are filled with hands-on activities, engaging lessons, and plenty of opportunities for play and exploration. We also focus on social and emotional development, helping children to build friendships, express themselves, and grow in confidence.

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to your child’s success. This page will keep you updated with what we’re learning, important dates, and ways you can support your child at home.
